RINGA! Exhibition of Taal, presented by Umuzi in partnership with AFROPUNK on 5 October, explores the weight of language in shaping identity and connection. The exhibition reframes language in Southern Africa as a complex singularity rather than a set of separate systems. A group of young Umuzi artists, in collaboration with Sandile Radebe and Pule Welsch, used Isibheqe, an indigenous writing system for Southern African languages, as a visual and conceptual medium for expressing a pan-lingual, everyday experience. The works treat language as a flowing system capable of generating pathways and self-referential meaning. The exhibition invites viewers to engage language non-hierarchically, opening space for multiplicity and exchange. It was curated by Chantelle Lue, Afari Kofi, Clayton Nkateko, Pule Welsch, Sandile Radebe, and Odendaal Esterhuyse.
