In Ezikhala Kamnandi (2017), Sandile explores the visual and linguistic interplay between iscamtho—a vibrant, urban South African dialect—and the geometric language of amabheqe, traditionally used as indigenous petroglyphs and markings. Using fine-tipped pen on paper, the artist inscribes the composition with isibheqe soHlamvu, a decolonial syllabic writing system rooted in Southern Bantu languages. The drawing meditates on how language—spoken, written, and symbolised—produces space and meaning in postcolonial urban experience. This piece sits at the intersection of street idiom and Indigenous knowledge, where geometry, glyphs, and rhythm become tools for epistemic recovery.
