Isinyolovane II continues Sandile Radebe’s investigation into the reimagining of amabheqe — traditional isiZulu petroglyphs — as sculptural forms in contemporary art. Spray-painted onto pine wood, the work draws from the isinyolovane technique, a distinctive beadwork approach that prioritises compositional intent over regional stylistic norms. Here, Radebe translates this ethos into a bold, three-dimensional visual language, proposing Isinyolovane II as part of a conceptual series imagining public sculpture for urban African spaces. The symmetrical and rhythmic design honours the spiritual and communicative role of amabheqe, while positioning them within the modern lexicon of city form, abstraction, and installation.
