The “after” version of Umcimbi wendawo captures the residue of communal presence—the aftermath of an imagined gathering where knowledge was exchanged, stories were told, and silences were shared. The table now bears the imprint of that moment: rearranged vessels, scattered fragments, and empty spaces that speak to both presence and absence.
This work gestures toward the fragility and endurance of Indigenous knowledge systems—what remains after the event, what is carried forward, and what lingers in the spiritual and material world. It invites reflection on the afterlife of ritual, and how embodied memory resists erasure even after the participants have dispersed.
Together with the before installation, this piece completes a speculative cycle of gathering, sharing, and dispersal—offering a spatial and temporal meditation on indigeneity, orality, and ancestral continuity.
